I love the vibe of New York City on marathon Sunday and felt so lucky to be in Iceland on the day that they have their annual marathon.
This day is a huge day for Iceland - and out of the 317,000 people in Iceland - approx 150,000 show up on Culture Day...
It starts with the annual marathon - and all day the museums are open late, everyone is out to play, to dance --- we came across a little park with a human sized chess board where there were accordian players and loved watching the dancing..and joined in too. The weather on this day was absolutely perfect.
At night there were massive fireworks... and they lit up the new opera house... called Harpa in sync with the fireworks.
